New Beginnings
Residing on the eastern end of Long Island for over 45 years, my artwork reflects the strong colors, detail and magnificent landscape of the North Fork. Each day, as I walk, I feel like a sponge absorbing the magnificence of my surroundings. I draw and paint what I love…..local landscape, family and friends and the luscious produce of the area. I constantly observe the environment around me and gravitate toward pattern and design in nature. I enjoy combining watercolor, acrylic and occasionally collage materials to add texture to my work. As an art educator I encourage diversity, creativity and productivity. Having recently retired as a full -time art teacher, I have the time and the pleasure of putting theory and process into practice. In the words of Hans Hoffman “ the creative process lies not in imitating but in paralleling nature…. translating the impulse we receive from nature into the medium of expression, thus vitalizing this medium. The picture should be alive, the statue should be alive and every work of art should be alive.”
